Consultant Clinical Psychologist
About Dr Nick White
If you are considering therapy, you may be looking not only for someone highly qualified, but for someone with the depth of experience and knowledge to provide meaningful help
What you can expect from me
What you can expect from me is a high standard of care, shaped by many years of clinical work, specialist training, and experience at a senior level in mental health.
I bring depth of knowledge, professional judgement, and a broad understanding of how emotional difficulties can develop and affect different areas of life.
I use CBT as part of my work, alongside other evidence-based approaches including ACT, mindfulness, and systemic thinking. I therefore offer support that is thoughtful, collaborative, and responsive to what you need.
I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with more than 30 years’ experience in mental health, including 21 years in the NHS and nearly two decades in private practice.
I work with adults facing a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties, including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, and problems linked to work and life pressures.

Experience that goes beyond the therapy room

Over the course of my career, I have worked not only as a psychologist, but also as a senior NHS clinical leader and manager, specialist trainer, supervisor, lecturer, and expert advisor in psychological therapies.
This means I bring not only direct clinical experience, but a wider understanding of how emotional difficulties develop, how services work, how people respond under pressure, and how psychological support can make a real difference.
Before working fully in private practice, I held very senior roles in the NHS, including as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and later an Associate Director at Band 9 level. I led some of the largest mental health and community services in the country with responsibility for up to 500 staff and operating budgets of up to £25 million.
That experience has given me a strong and practical understanding of complexity, pressure, responsibility, workplace systems, and the ways emotional strain can build over time.
Specialist trainer and expert advisor
Alongside my clinical and leadership work, I have contributed to the wider development of psychological therapies and mental health services at a national level.
I worked as a specialist advisor for the Strategic Health Authority, leading psychological workforce developments aimed at improving access to psychological therapies across the East of England, and was a member of the Department of Health IAPT workforce education and training committee.
I have also been part of expert reference groups in psychological therapies and mental health nationally, including for University College London in conjunction with the Department of Health and NICE, contributing to national guidance and workforce training curricula.
I am also an experienced supervisor, trainer, and lecturer. I have taught at universities including Hertfordshire and the University of London, was a visiting fellow at the University of Essex with responsibility for organising first-year teaching on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology training programme, and worked as a seminar leader training CBT therapists at the Westminster Pastoral Foundation.
This reflects the level at which I have worked for many years, and the seriousness with which I take psychological therapy and professional standards.
